2002 HC 1st edition in excellent condition. Just 31 thick pages - each packed with interesting highlights of prior climbing expeditions and the mountain - and lots interactive fun (it looks like all the artifacts are still in their pockets). It seems to be marketed to adults, but it seems more appropriate for young adults who might be interested in mountain climbing. From the back: "EVEREST brings the mountain to life through removable historic maps and artifacts. From the evolution of the Himalayas millions of years ago to the wildlife that inhabit the region today, from the people who live in its shadow to the ones who dream of standing on its summit, this book conveys the triumphs and tragedies of Everest in a unique format that no other book can match." The author, MATT DICKINSON is a British filmmaker and writer who specializes in chronicling the adventures of extreme expeditions. Matt's gripping account of his Everest ascent in 1996 was published as The Death Zone in the United Kingdom and as The Other Side of Everest in the United States.

From Amazon/GoodReads reviews: "This is a fun and really clever little book. I enjoyed every page and learned a lot, too. It was supposed to be a gift but I didn't want to part with it."; "I expected a detailed account of a variety of Everest expeditions. Although it touches on some of those expeditions, this relatively slim volume also touches on a wide variety of subjects, including the geology of the region, the flora and fauna, the mapping of the region, the Sherpa people, and a brief history of Tibet. It does give a sketch of the successful Hillary-Tenzing climb, as well as the Mallory and Irvine expedition and the search for their bodies. So the book is of some interest, just not what I expected from the title."; "This was a short, interactive book with many (smallish) replicas of documents in pockets to pull out or examine - an old diary, a form for what to do with your body if you die on Everest, a list of items to bring on your summit attempt, the envelope found on Mallory's body in 1997, and a Tibetan prayer flag. There are some nice pictures and it's a quick history lesson of summit attempts and what it's like to climb Everest now. Also some speculation on the future of climbing this mountain."
