It Takes a Child to Raise a Parent offers an exploration of how our own childhood memories and needs influence and shape our parenting decisions in our adult lives. Expectant parents and current parents interested in understanding their own personality development as well as the many moods of childhood and their own children, will find clear guidelines for understanding their roles in their children's lives as well as concrete suggestions for how to navigate the choppy waters of raising children.

Dr. Janis Johnston (https://janisjohnston.com/) has a Doctorate in counseling psychology and a Master's degree in school psychology from Boston University. She has worked as a school psychologist, a supervising psychologist at a mental health center, an employee assistance therapist, and a family therapist. Through her private practice she provided psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and their parents. Johnston is a frequent presenter at national psychology and education conferences. Her books are on the topics of parenting (It Takes a Child to Raise a Parent) and grieving (Midlife Maze: Recovery and Rediscovery After Loss).

From Amazon reviews: "Dr. Johnston's ability to transpose dense and complex theories into more palatable prose for a lay audience is telling of her ability to connect to a broad audience. Always clever, apt to offer insight, and the quintessential children's advocate, Dr. Johnston's words paint a vivid picture of the symbiotic dynamic of the parent/child relationship that persists throughout childhood, adolescence, and even into adulthood."; "I would recommend this book to both parents and everyone planning on having children. It is creatively written, and gives helpful guidelines and suggestions for raising healthy (mind, body, spirit) children."; ""
