Excerpt from the back of the book: "Harold David Almond was born in 1915 to a large, close-knit family in New Jersey. Coming to the mountains and forests of West Virginia to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College, Harold began a never-ending love affair with this wonderous place. Even during the exciting and challenging years of Northwestern Medical School in Chicago and his stint in the Army Air Force in occupied Japan, his heart was in the hills, so he returned to Upshur County, West Virginia in 1949, became actively involved in the community, and above all, tended to the lives of his patients. Now retired, Dr. Almond and his current collie dog, McBrier, live in the family home of forty years on a hill overlooking the town of Buckhannon. He enjoys writing, telling stories to his friends and seven grandchildren, and voraciously reading detective stories."

From Amazon/GoodReads reviews: "A delightful collection of stories of a West Virginia country doctor. Although he practiced into the 1980s, most stories are set in the 1950s, his first decade in Buckhannon County, when he rode around the area in a Jeep treating patients regardless of weather conditions. The book provided an insight into the evolution of medicine as well as a good many laughs."; "Concurrent to Almond's humor is his obvious dedication to the best possible medical care for all, including the indigent"; "Great short stories of a time long past."
