2012 french-flap PB in excellent condition. This memoir follows the life of a liberated Jewish woman who refuses to follow society's rules, lives life to the fullest, and has a child with each of the three men she loves, all as World War I, the Roaring Twenties, and Nazism take over Europe.

From recent-ish Amazon/GoodReads reviews, nearly all of which were languages other than English: "This was a unique perspective on WWII because the author focuses less on the war itself and more on the family dynamics and social/philosophical impact on the bohemian community in Berlin in the years before, during and after the war. It is a moving tribute to her mother, with whom she had a stormy relationship at times, but who had quite the life."; "Beautiful story, unique perspective of WWII / her mother's life. Just stumbled upon this book and am so glad I did. Would definitely reread it. Very unique, amazing writing"; "A completely different perspective from the books I'd read before about that same period in history. I loved the last part and the attention to detail in the way each situation was viewed."; "Angelika's mother was truly unlike any other. A stark and honest portrait of a society during one of the darkest periods in recent history."
