1974 HCDJ SIGNED second printing, in nice clean condition. Earl Thollander's (1923-2001) claim to fame were his 'Back Roads' illustrated books. His true desire, as a reporter-artist with wanderlust, was to just slow down, observe and appreciate the world in all its diversity. His Back Roads series of books are travel sketches and trip notes of archetypal journeys of both expanse and detail. He traveled widely and observed it all. "(What I do) has nothing to do with haste and everything to do with taking time to perceive with full consciousness the Earth's ever-changing colors, designs and patterns." -Earl Thollander.

From Amazon/GoodReads reviews: "Gem of a book about New England. The drawings and notes by the author are charming."; "If you love a travel journal that inspires, you can always count on this artist. As time passes and roads, landmarks etc change, you might not use this as an actual map, but it would be fun to take his routes and see what remains. Recommended for artists, travelers and armchair travelers alike!"; "What a delightful little read from a book I found not once but twice on two separate back roads of New England!"
